The surroundings

Château de Digoine is located in the countryside between Autun and the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan and the city of Beaune, well known for its wine. This is a varied landscape, with woods, hills, streams, lakes and castles. The region of Burgundy with its rich history and culture has a lot to offer and is an ideal base to spend an active or relaxing holiday in a less discovered part of France.

Cyclists will enjoy the many country lanes and hikers the footpaths for either a short walk or serious ´grandes randonnees´.

There are plenty of restaurants in the immediate vicinity and we can certainly give suggestions.

The nearby towns and villages (some renowned for their wines) are very much worth a visit.

On the way to the Château de Digoine one passes through the famous vineyards of the Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits and the Chalonnais. It is well worth a trip to visit the renowned and lesser-known vineyards to try some of their exquisite wines. The ´route des Grand vins´ to the chateaux and the caves is well marked on the tourist maps.

In addition one can visit the country markets in Beaune, Autun, Chagny and Chalon sur Saône and experience the local delicacies. For ´brocante´ and antique lovers there are many attic sales (vide greniers) and flea markets (puces).

For sports lovers there are various possibilities. Activities include five golf courses, an open-air swimming pool and playground, water sports, cycling, climbing and of course hiking.

In a nutshell, it´s an area to unwind and spend the perfect holiday.
